April is nationally recognized as Child Abuse Prevention Month. Join Prevent Child Abuse Nebraska’s Pinwheels for Prevention® campaign “Connect, Listen, Support” to help our community take an active role in promoting healthy child development— so that child abuse and neglect never occur. The campaign promotes healthy child development, positive parenting practices and community action. Our community is proudly displaying pinwheels to serve as a reminder that we all have a responsibility to ensure children grow up healthy and safe in our community. Kid's Carnival for Child Abuse Prevention Month

UPDATE: Our annual Kid's Carnival for Child Abuse Prevention Month was held on March 31, 2012. We began our event with Mayor Marc Kaschke reading the mayoral proclamation proclaiming April as Child Abuse Prevention Month in the city of North Platte. We then began games, food and fun for a total of 455 children and adults in attendance. We distributed our parent resource bags to each family in attendance, containing local and national resources, supports and information. Many of our local child and family serving agencies were on hand and distributed information to parents as well.

April is national Child Abuse Prevention Month. Each year the Lincoln County Child Abuse Prevention Council recognizes this month with the annual Child Abuse Prevention Month Kid’s Carnival. The goal of this year’s campaign “Connect, Listen, Support” is to promote healthy child development, positive parenting practices and community action. This year’s Kid’s Carnival will take place on Saturday, March 31, 2012 from 1:00-4:00pm at the Platte River Mall. The event will feature free carnival games for parents to play with their children, balloon artists, free lunch provided by Wal-Mart DC and more. Free parenting resources will be distributed and representatives from various child and family serving agencies will also be on hand. This event is free to parents and children.
